Open De School

RESEARCH,

Open De School

About two years ago we started a new initiative called Open De School | Open The School.

At this moment, we have a great deal of expertise and experience when it comes to designing schools. During our practice, we notice that a lot of schools are aware of all the changes around us but at the same time don’t know what that could mean for teaching in the future.

What will young people learn?
How will they learn?
Where will the learn?

Open The School’s aim is to talk about this issue with school boards, school- and facility managements, teachers and students in an informal way. To listen, discuss and come up with new and unexpected spatial solutions.

If there is any moment to rethink the spatial possibilities in designing schools  for decades to come it is now!

A shifting perspective on our economy also means a changing view on the way we organize the space in which our children learn and excel.
Learning environments that are easily and quickly adaptable to the needs of its user (1).

Environments where digital working and learning is even more encouraged and facilitated (2).

An environment that stimulates the individual qualities of students: curiosity, exploration and creativity. For young and old (3).

Where educational buildings become smarter (4).

Where schools no longer are closed strongholds. But instead are open.
Open to people, businesses, the neighborhood, the environment (5).

Learning environments where the user is the focal point. That also means the teacher (6).

In other words: sustainable learning environments that are spatially much more divers and user-friendly.

Extensive research has long shown that the physical learning environment has a positive effect on the concentration and performances of students and teachers. We ask ourselves how schools as institutions will change to become sustainable, pleasant and inspiring learning environments.

Open The School’s aim is to talk about this issue with school boards, school- and facility managements, teachers and students in an informal way. To listen, discuss and come up with new and unexpected spatial solutions.

The way Open The School does that is organizing Keynote discussions and workshops.

Alongside the initiative Open The School we invite and challenge suppliers and producers who also are working in the realm of the learning environment to join us because we are convinced that only together we can come up with sustainable and innovative solutions for the learning environments of tomorrow.

Open your eyes.
