Office renovation Rijkswaterstaat

Dordrecht

Main aim of the commission is to unite different corporate divisions of Rijkswaterstaat into one existing building – partially used by the Court of Justice Rotterdam – on a new location in the city center of Dordrecht. Hundred workplaces are created according to de governmental demands formulated in FWR (Fysieke Werkomgeving Rijk). This means making a smart mix of effective offices to work and communicate. Individual, together in smaller or bigger groups of people. A special mix fitting the dynamics and quality of the Governmental Workplace requirements in general and those of Rijkswaterstaat in particular.

The first level of the building to be renovated can be characterized as an office space with narrow corridors and heavy brick walls. Sparsely daylight is brought in and central meeting spaces are completely missing.

To fit in the program effectively a big central orientated space is created near the entrance at the heart of the floor area. Most of the communication work spaces are situated here.
– This space has an open and transparent atmosphere
– Inviting for staff and visitors
– Sight into the two main working areas and towards daylight
– Connecting two main wings of the floor
– Creating space for facilities non depending on daylight
– Reinforcing orientation and overview
Look & Feel: communication

In the periphery of the floor are the office workspaces:
– Orientated towards the facade and windows for daylight
– Always in connection to the central meeting spaces
Look & Feel: concentration
