Together with our client en users we used the following ingredients for the design:
– making a volume that is positioned in a ‘twisted’ in order to get different kinds of schoolyards for every special group of kids
– making a volume that consists of many angles so that we could make a lot of spaces with different atmosphere
– use materials that appeal to the users such as brick, wood
-use of only two main colors to achieve a sense of tranquility
– multiple use of daylight entering in from different side of the building
– use of as much existing trees on the site as possible

The learning environment is divided in a fixed zone to the northside of the building with all the classrooms and an open flexible zone where all spaces are connected with each other and with the schoolyards outside.

One of the main features approaching the school is the big staircase – inside and out – that makes it possible to enter the school on different levels and at the same time can be used as a little theater.

The school is rated as one of the most sustainable schools in Rotterdam (Frisse Scholen klasse B) at this moment.
